Charming done – Nanowrimo on the horizon

Great news on the writing front. Charming was successfully submitted to Harper-Collins Voyager, so we’ll see how it does. I’ll either have some good news in the next three months or not, but in any event, the rewrite is done. Blue Oranda is happy to wait in the wings, so one way or another, I plan to see Charming in print next year.

November is coming and that brings National Novel Writing Month. Both the Krueger and Crimson Hawks novels were born during this annual event, and I plan to participate again. I’m considering posting as I strive to complete 50,000 words and take everyone with me on the journey, but we’ll see. My first goal is to complete the novel, and I don’t want everyone to drop me on twitter.

I’d strongly recommend participating to anyone out there. It’s difficult but fun. I failed in my first attempt in 2008, but I’ve succeeded in every year since. It’s improved my writing, and it’s helped me to learn how to be productive.

My apologies for so few posts this month, but I’m hoping to post a lot more in the next two weeks. I’m also looking at updating the website and blog (including adding more pictures).

Thanks for reading,

Harry

June Update

My apologies for not getting much done on the blog this month. I’ve always read on blogs about how things come up to distract authors – now, I understand. I’ve included a little bit for everyone below.

First of all, work continues on all things related to the Crimson Hawks and In the Service of the King. I’m currently on track to have the book e-published before June 30. I’ve still got a bit to go on the second book, Ashes and Cinders, and the third book, Coins and Crusaders, was the subject of my Camp Nanowrimo attempt. It is currently stuck at a dismal 6000 words. Still, all in all, it should be a good month for the Hawks.

For my Games Workshop fans, I had a very good conversation with Jeff Smith, my Space Wolf co-author, earlier this month. I’m hopeful that we may be getting together sometime this summer to start work on another novel to propose to Black Library.

Souls of the Everwood has suffered some delays due to my distractions, but I’m thinking that it’s only about a month behind In the Service of the King. My current goal is to publish it before the end of summer. Krueger’s second book, tentatively titled Black Powder and Brimstone, shouldn’t be far behind.

I’ve made progress with getting some artwork for the cover of a superhero anthology that I’m working on with a couple of other talented writers.

White Wolf fans should check out the following blog. I’m excited about the possibilities of this new game, and hopefully, I’ll have a chance to work with a number of old friends and some very talented people.

Finally, I’m also close to seeing the publication of Charming, a novel that I’ve written with my friend John Peck. In this day and age of fairy tale mania, we’ve had our comedic fantasy novel written for a year and a half. With all the movies coming out about fairy tales, I promise that I have a story that will make you laugh and make you think at the same time.

Thanks for all the patience and I’ll see if I can’t get an excerpt from one of these works up here in the next week.

All the best!

Camp Nanowrimo

So, as if I didn’t have enough to do with working on In the Service of the King and Souls of the Everwood, I’ve decided to participate in Camp Nanowrimo.

Nanowrimo is short for National Novel Writing Month which occurs every November. Participants are asked to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. I’ve participated since 2008 and both of my upcoming e-books were born there. Not only do they promote a more literary world, but they help support writing programs and educational programs for kids. Here’s their site: http://www.nanowrimo.org.

Camp Nanowrimo is basically the same thing, but set in June and August. I’m looking to jump start some of my fiction output, so I thought it would be a good challenge. That site is: http://www.campnanowrimo.org. I haven’t completely decided what to write, but I may finish my epic fantasy novel, The Lantern, or work on another in the Crimson Hawks series. I have my doubts about finishing, but it should be fun to try.

Please feel free to join me.
